We've been saving, scrimping, plotting, sneaking, and slumming in order to travel nearly all our lives. We've entered contests--even won one!--and been couriers carrying God only knows what...to quench our thirst for travel. We choose destinations based on regional food (or our dreams of it), if the city is in a favorite song, how John Irving has described the place in his novels, where favorite poets lived, where favorite painters were inspired, where religions and cultures mix, and based on food. Yes; we meant to write that twice. Over the years, we have traveled all over the world, in poverty and in luxury, and the stories of our adventures are always the highlight of reunions with family and friends. We have gotten many requests to share our journals, itineraries, and tips for hassle free sojourns. Karen's logical mind helps us get where we're going and Linda's artistic nature helps us capture where we've been. Karen can memorize and follow maps and train schedules in any language. . . which is very important, because Linda snatches them from her hands, knowing they are art. We may get lost sometimes, but we always have scraps of where we meant to go.

From our first disastrous, yet wonderful, trips on a serious budget, we have learned to decode the clever lingo used in travel books and have warned many friends of the perils of completely trusting Frommer and Fodors.

To continue to finance travel, Karen became a lawyer, and to keep travel fun, Linda remained an artist. Guess who travels more?
